What were the results for the McGinnies study?
The GSR got more of a response on the offensive words. It took longer for the participants to process the offensive words.

What is the meaning of perceptual defence?
When our brain is confronted with embarrassing or offensive words that our brains block the information temperarily. This explains the delay in recognition.

What are weaknesses of this study?
When a reproduction of this study is done results are contradictory. Perceptual defence to offensive words may be due to embarrassment not defence. So hesitation to repeat the word may not be due to perceptual defence. This is an extraneous variable.
