Newtons Laws

1st Law: Law of inertia

Newtons first law of motion states that objects with balanced forces acting on them will stay in rest or constant motion. An object will not change its motion unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.

Inertia: Inertia is the natural tendency of an object to maintain its velocity. Inertia is not a force, it is just a way of describing the motion.

An object has the velocity of 7m/s east. Due to the objects inertia, it will tend to continue moving at 7m/s east.

Due to inertia, a particular object has a tendency to have a velocity of 0m/s. The state of motion is at rest.

2nd Law:

F= ma

Force (newtons) = mass (kg) x acceleration (ms^-2)
