The battle of Ypres was the first battle that ever used gas as a weapon.

July 1, 1916 – November 18, 1916

Terrible endurance test that proved Canadians soldiers could endure hard fights. Commanders were taught painful lessons about trench warfare.

July 31 1917 - 10 November 1917

The battle of Passchemdaele did nothing to help the Allied effort, and it instead became a symbol of senseless slaughter of WW1.

April 9 1917 - April 12 1917

The top Canadian officer, Arthur Currie insisted troops be well rested, well prepared and well informed about the attack. Soldiers were given maps and photographs to study.

August 8 1918 - November 11 1918

An armistice was being negotiated and at 11 am on November 11th, the armistice became official and the war ended.

Vote is granted to all wives, sisters, mothers, and daughters of soldiers who were serving or had served overseas. The vote is denied to those of European birth and speaking enemy tongue, those of enemy birth, and conscientious objectors.

Is the name given to the document stipulation the peace terms imposed on Germany by the Allied victors of WW1 The peace terms of 28 June 1919, handed to Germany after WW1, were drawn up at the Paris Peace Conference and signed near the French capital at Versailles. The treaty broke up and redistributed the German Empire and required substantial reparation payments from it. The treaty contributed to German resentment in the period following the war. In the 1930s Adolph Hitler systematically undid the treaty. The US did not want to punish Germany because they did not face as much trouble from them; they were also very far away from Germany so Germany’s actions wouldn’t impact them as much Canada had a separate representation at the conference where the treaty was negotiated making an essential stage in the gradual movement toward Canada’s independence from Great Britain

Life in the trenches was miserable and dangerous. Depending on the season they deal with bone-chilling cold, unbearable heat or constant rain and mud. They dealt with filthy uniforms infested with lice, and rats were everywhere. Diseases such as trench foot and pneumonia were also common.
