can last 15 mins to 2.5 hrs or longer contractions every 3-5 mins lasts 60 secs crowning occurs may feel stretching, burning or pressure in uterus
after birth
final and shortest stage of labor lasts 10-20 mins mild contractions placenta will be examined thoroughly may need stitches from tear or episiotomy
