Henry VIII decided to Break with Rome, making himself Head of the Church of England so that he could marry Anne Boleyn, Elizabeth’s mother.

Henry VIII executed Anne Boleyn for treason and excluded Elizabeth from succeeding him.

Henry VIII changed his mind on his death-bed, and said that Elizabeth could succeed him.

AND

Edward VI became king and made England a Protestant country.

Mary I became queen and made England a Catholic country.

Elizabeth I became queen and made England a Protestant country but adopted a ‘middle way’

Elizabeth was forced to accept the treaty of Cateau-Cambrésis with France which confirmed the loss of Calais.

England, France and Scotland signed the Treaty of Edinburgh which agreed that all military forces will withdraw from Scotland and acknowledged Elizabeth I as queen of England and Ireland.
