Pure economic loss is not recoverable

No duty on local authority to avoid causing C pure economic loss

C can recover for pure economic loss where there is a negligent misstatement and a special relationship

A surveyor has professional expertise so it was reasonably foreseeable that C would rely on his report

A personnel officer with access to specialist knowledge possessed a specialist skill or expertise

D can 'possess a specialist skill or expertise' if C has relied on D's skill and judgement

A person with specialist skill and expertise only owes C a duty of care if they hold themselves out as being in the business of giving advice in that area

D must know the identity of the person or class of persons who will rely on his statement (3)

D will only be liable for his statement if when making it he knows or ought to know the purpose for which it will be used (4)

C must show both that he relied on D's statement and that it was reasonable to do so (5)
